History
“ A generation which ignores history, has no past and no future.”
At Westside, we hope to develop your analytical skills and provide a deep appreciation of our
historical past. Our dedicated team is committed to providing an enriching thrilling learning
experience that allows students to explore the past, express themselves confidently through
speaking, critical analysis and writing. We also teach students to link the past to present day current
affairs. As the saying goes “ History repeats itself.” Through our comprehensive curriculum, students
engage with a diverse range of topics from Medieval to Modern History throughout their school
experience.
“ Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
History Yr7 Project
Our Year 7s take part in a local history project producing replica artefacts like cannons used during the Great Siege. These artefacts were made from card board and students working in groups had to use their creative skills to make a project of their own choosing.
“ If you don’t know history, its as if you are born yesterday…..”
Yr8 Evacuation Project
Our Year 8s, take part in the evacuation project which focuses on the evacuation which took place during World War 2. Students compete for a top cash prize kindly donated by the friends of Gibraltar. They use their artistic, creative or writing skills to produce a project. This task is a cross curricular activity as the Drama Department is also involved and a Year Assembly is organised to present the prizes.
Evacuation Assembly
Evacuation Assembly held by the Year 8s to commemorate the Evacuation of Gibraltarians which took place during World War Two.
