SASC stands for Staff and Student Council. This responsibility team carries out a range of initiatives within Westside and represents the school in the wider community. They have regular meetings with staff, as well as with student ambassadors from years 7-11, to ensure optimal communication across the members of the school.

Reps have attended round table discussions at Bassadone Automotive Group and Hassans where they have discussed related issues that are relevant today. The organisers of these events told us that "our students were all incredible and super inspiring. They really engaged the audience which led to great questions from those attending as well. You should definitely be proud of the way they represented the schools today and we can definitely see them as the leaders of tomorrow." They have also attended the Ministry of Equality’s International Women’s Day event where Madam Speaker gave a short address and then moderated a panel discussion event on the UN theme, ‘Ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls.’
At Westside, we believe in meaningful interpersonal relationships and interactions. We wanted sixth form students to have an outdoor space that felt comfortable and appealing, so that they could study outdoors if they chose, or take a break from their work in the fresh air. Reps have been gardening, building and beautifying in their weekly Wednesday meetings...watch this space for updates!
SASC successfully runs weekly recycling collections from teachers' offices and classrooms and is slowly building their sustainability initiatives. This year we will be developing our recycling programme further and recruiting Eco Reps from KS3 to help us. More news to come soon!
Head Students Marcus Martinez and Lucia Hernandez coordinated 50 volunteers from SASC to raise £630.47 for GBC Open Day. SASC members have also helped out with a bake sale in aid of Cancer Relief. Jamie Silva ran a popcorn stall that contributed to the Gbc oPEN dAY.
Our ClimAct ambassadors: Luca Culatto Sanguinetti, Mia Lara, Talya Abudarham, Tanisha Amarnani, Evan Puyol, Timothy Salmon, Lee Davis and Victor Bering meet regularly with Mr Perez and Mrs Hammond in order to roll out initiatives that will increase our sustainability as a school.
Our sixth formers regularly represent Westside School at each Youth Symposium. Their engagement with political, cultural and social ideas are testament to their desire to shape the future of Gibraltar!
